Been neglecting posting updates even though there has been tons of progress. It's simply too time consuming with everything else going on so decided to focus on making progress rather than posting and journaling. Been pushing to get to completion with a full mould set for cyberdoll v0.1 and it's finally done! We now have a complete skeleton and mould for every body part to build a prototype. With way over 100 skeleton pieces and mould parts this was an important step to complete because there is only so much one can anticipate in theory. Once a thing is built it becomes clear how it really deforms and matches up in the real world. How the proportions and shapes read once assembled, how the silicone flows through the mould, how the parts de-mould, how effective the magnets are in keeping the figurine assembled, if the wire is strong enough to hold a pose, if the PLA skeleton is strong enough to hold a wire without breaking, if the silicone deforms well around the joints... Many tweaks and changes are needed and mistakes in the design have been made but only by building the first prototype can they effectively be ironed out. Here are a couple of snapshots of how the first Cyberdoll prototype turned out... The original... Utilizing the new Photoshop generative fill feature to get rid of the seams between silicone parts. The magnets weren't enough to hold the pieces together so they had to be glued with silicone. It is now impossible to repair or replace the skeleton inside without cutting her open. The Frankenstein look isn't great... and being unable to do repairs on the skeleton won't do so a new design is needed. Again a side by side comparison of the original on the right and the photoshopped version on the left. And one last perspective. Overall the proportions and the way the silicone deforms turned out well. Will refrain from further posing for fear of breaking this prototype. Right... also had to get into sewing a little to make some clothes... patterns need to be altered somewhat to fit her stylized, exaggerated curves better... but that will be a chapter for another time. Will likely not be able to get started on v0.2 for a while since we're now moving country to Indonesia. Hope I can find the resources to keep this project going over there. Finding the right silicone might be tricky.
